We will be delving deeper into the Rotary pillars as we read novels (only fiction) that shed light on issues Rotary champions – promoting peace, fighting illiteracy and poverty, helping people get access to clean water and sanitation, fighting disease, ending polio, promoting maternal health, ending human trafficking, and protecting our planet’s natural resources.
We invite the wider community to join us – so please invite your friends who are not part of Rotary!
We plan to meet quarterly – 2nd Wednesday of the month starting in Feb.
- Join us WEDNESDAY, FEB 11, 2026
- 7-9 P.M. Light snacks provided. Beverages BYO
CAMP BAR – Cabaret Room (owned by Saint Paul Rotarian Bill Collins)
- 490 Robert Street North, Downtown Saint Paul
- Ample street parking and across from the beautiful Pedro Park
We begin by reading Minnesota author William Kent Krueger’s novel, Windigo Island. The story has a running story theme spotlighting human trafficking in the Duluth and northern Wisconsin (Bayfield) area.

Summary: When the body of a teenage Ojibwe girl washes up on the shore of an island in Lake Superior, the residents of the nearby Bad Bluff reservation whisper that it was the work of a deadly mythical beast, the Windigo, or a vengeful spirit called Michi Peshu. Such stories have been told by the Ojibwe people for generations, but they don’t explain how the girl and her friend, Mariah Arceneaux, disappeared a year ago. At the request of the Arceneaux family, private investigator Cork O’Connor takes on the case.
Saint Paul residents elected Kaohly Her as the city's first woman and first Asian American mayor in 2025. Mayor Her was born in the mountains of Laos and came to the United States as a refugee at age three. A strong work ethic, her family's tenacity, and support from her community propelled Mayor Her to the highest levels of our state government and now to City Hall. A finance professional, non-profit executive, stay-at-home mom, school board administrator, and State Representative, Mayor Her brings her years of lived experience across different sectors to help Saint Paul move forward.
Mayor Her enters City Hall with a focus on getting the nuts and bolts of running our city right. She knows that we can come together around our shared values for a vibrant city with a diverse economy and responsive city government. Because when our city runs well, people will want to move here, start businesses, and develop housing — all of which will broaden our tax base and make Saint Paul more affordable and prosperous for years to come.
We are expecting a larger crowd than usual for this event so if you would like to attend, please register HERE by February 18th. Flex members and guests will be charged a $30 fee for lunch.
