The Rotary Club of Saint Paul enjoys a long-standing relationship with the Rotary Club of Corriverton, Guyana. The trusted partnership between the clubs is a key element why our development projects in Guyana can be so effective. This story reviews our activities over the years.

In Rotary year 2003-2004, the Rotary Club of Saint Paul shipped a container filled with school and medical supplies to Guyana. Jim Field and Valdi Stephanson traveled to Guyana in January 2004 to oversee the distribution of the donations.

While working with the Rotary Club of Corriverton, Guyana, we have also supplied fresh drinking water by installing piping and a new diesel pump in a well which was previously non-functional.

This project was supported by matching funds from District 5960 and the Rotary Foundation. George Hubbs, Jim Field and Todd Nicholson also used funds from a Miller Discovery Grant to journey to Corriverton in 1995 to initiate the project. After the funds were raised, the Corriverton Club supervised the purchase and installation of the pump and piping. On January 31,1998, Vice President Elect Bob Jones and Jim Field were present when the final piping was laid and the pump turned on.

While there, Dr. Jones also performed several hours of needed dental work for the residents of the reservation. More help is needed and planned. We have developed a wish list of items needed for schools and hospitals.

More recently, the Rotary Club of Saint Paul has provided copiers for schools in Guyana -- see this story. In the Rotary year 2009-2010, a new project to supply equipment for urgently needed computer labs at Guyana schools has been approved.
