Service - January 6-7 - MN HOSA judging
Jan. 06, 2025 - Jan. 07, 2025
The incoming president of Twin Cities Rotaract, Malia Hasselius, is looking for judges to assist with a skills competition led by a student organization called MN HOSA.  Here's her description:
Our mission is to empower students all the way from middle school to college to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. One way we do this is helping them prepare for their future career by encouraging knowledge and skill development in our competitive event program. We offer students 90+ competitive events which represent a wide range of health careers (if you’re curious this link goes to all of the events HOSA offers). Through these events, we aim to reward and recognize students for the hard work they are already doing. Our volunteer judges are the reason we can make this happen!  Judges assess students on a variety of skills according to a (provided) rubric. Through these judges, we are able to ensure that a student gets excited about a future in healthcare and that we can encourage them to perfect skills relating to their future.  As for judging qualifications, they vary by event. Some events are highly technical and require a clinical healthcare background but other events (ex. Job Seeking Skills, Prepared Speaking, Creative Problem Solving, etc) don’t. There is a list linked to the sign-ups that details this fully!  The time commitment with each of these really varies depending on how much a person wants to do. All judges will have a quick 15 minute virtual orientation to go over before the event. As for the actual judging, our virtual judges can sign up for as many 10-15 minute time slots they feel comfortable.
Here's the link to learn more and sign up:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904094CA5A82DA3FC1-52623522-judge   If you're going to be in Anoka on January 8 or Rochester on January 10, there are live events both days - please email me to learn more.  And if you'd like to learn more about HOSA, check out this link - https://minnesotahosa.org/

Service - Mock Trial Judges
Jan. 07, 2025 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Sign up to judge mock trial for high school students!  Among many opportunities (in person and virtual ) there are slots available January 7, 5:30-8pm, at the Ramsey County Courthouse.  Click here to find Ramsey County:  https://slotted.co/ws3hxgpz  There are also opportunities in Hennepin County in February:  https://slotted.co/itq8qcjx

The case: Our high school mock attorneys will be arguing State of Minnesota v. Koren Noble, a criminal case involving a murder in the BWCA. Addison Rogers-Nelson is an investor in a medical device company called Dembones. He was found face down in the water one day after arriving at the campsite with three others. Was it Koren Noble, the owner of Dembones? Was it a slip and fall? Where is the missing paddle?

Help inspire and educate the next generation of attorneys by volunteering for MSBA's High School Mock Trial Program.

Questions? Please contact Kim Basting, MSBA Mock Trial Director at kbasting@mnbars.org or 612-278-6306.

Jan. 10, 2025 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Saint Paul Rotary has continued a long Rotary tradition of recognizing the Students of the Month at Saint Paul's Gordon Parks High School.  On Friday, January 10, you are welcome to join other Club members at the school to honor the extraordinary students nominated by the school faculty as Students of the Month for the fall 2024 semester.  Meet the students, their families, and the teachers who nominated them for these awards, and see how recognizing these students' achievements inspires us all.  You can learn more about Gordon Parks High School, an alternative learning center, at this link:  https://gordonparks.spps.org/
